I know the idea of backups and keeping things safe is boring and can also seem daunting, but it is a modern necessity.
Last year we were looking for a backup solution and came across the Drobo, a nice looking black box that seemed to do what we wanted and more.
The Drobo is the simplest device of its kind I have ever seen or used. You plug it into your computer using FireWire, USB or optionally connect it to your network and then give it any two drives you have - switch on and your ready.
What makes this solution the best in my opinion and certainly the simplest is all you have to do is add
a drive (no screws, no switches and no hassle), all done. You do not need to match drive manufacturers,
capacities or specificiations. When you start running out of space the Drobo changes the colour of the smallest
drive bays light suggesting you swap this drive soon. You pull out the
old drive and the put in the new drive, let Drobo do its thing and you are ready. As long as you have two or more drives then the Drobo
will safely spread the data across both drives, if one fails all your data is still safe, is you swap a drive because
you ran out of space - your still safe.
It is unfortunate that the best backup solution purchases always come a day too late, usually the day after a major data loss. The Drobo is a backup solution you should go and buy right now, plug it in and start using it right away to go.
We use the Drobo as our primary data solution as it manages the security of our data for us at all times.
